Text Box: Spartanburg Housing Development Corporation's mission is to provide attractive quality homes for affordable prices.
A nonprofit organization established in 2001, SHD is committed to offering Spartanburg residents affordable resources so they can buy, maintain, and sustain their home. We partner with residents, lending institutions, the City of Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, corporations and foundations so that families can protect and preserve their single biggest investment—their home.
Spartanburg Housing Development Corporation is a charter member of the NeighborWorks® America network.  Today, there are more than 230 network organizations working to revitalize communities with affordable mortgage financing and comprehensive home-buyer counseling.
SHD Programs Are Organized Around Four Major Areas of Activity:
Home Ownership Education
SHD’s free Homebuyer Education classes are offered in English and Spanish. SHD’s HomeOwnership Center also provides counseling, services, and training customers need to purchase and maintain a home.
Real Estate Development
SHD assists in the revitalization of Spartanburg’s neighborhoods through community development, including infill and redevelopment activities. SHD has developed and manages apartment buildings. Redevelopment activity is strategically based to support the work of neighborhood-based programs, to expand homeownership opportunities available to low- and moderate-income families, and to provide affordable rental housing.  New developments include Victoria Gardens, Shaw Wilmont, Forest Park, Collins Park, Country Garden Estates, and Cedar Springs.
Neighborhood Strategy/Community Building
SHD promotes community development through neighborhood-based programs offering home ownership and rehab services in Victoria Gardens, Shaw Wilmont, Forest Park, Collins Park, Country Garden Estates, and Cedar Springs.
Innovation
SHD’s Innovation Division responds to revitalization issues, anticipates future needs, and crafts new solutions to ever-changing challenges in Spartanburg neighborhoods.  Programs have been developed in response to predatory lending and vacant, troubled buildings, along with strategies to help individuals needing assisted living.
